Types of Masculinity
Hegemonic
Subordinate
Marginalised
- Male Supremacy; Power & Authority
- Heterosexuality
- Aggresion/Aggresive
- 'Ladish' Culture
- Macho & Sexist
- A masculinity which new men, for example, might be said to adopt in taking on a share role in the family
Subordinate
- Associated with Gay men who are stereotypically viewed as behaving differently to the expectations of the dominant Hegemonic male
Marginalised
- Labour market has meant they can no longer assume there will be jobs for them after school, leaving many of them with a crisis, sense of loss and disconnectedness
- Like a loss of masculinity
